Week 23: FLAWS OF THE SMART CITY ISSUES
EXPLORING DARK FACES OF CONNECTED URBAN ENVIRONMENT
This week we are going to read all 14 of the Flaws on the reading taken from “Flaws of the Smart City – Design Friction Kit” (2014). Then imagine I am an evil genius designer, design via quick sketch “roughly rough” or collage, x3 evil designs for a near future version of my system (or a hybrid of your system) that exploits one or more of these flaws.
Flaw: #1 Loss of Privacy
System: Parking management
Evil genius design: Parking’s entrance that collect data about what you use of CO2 emissions and Parking payment without your permission. Drivers can park car with reasonable information and also if drivers used high CO2 and did not pay parking free in the past, they can not parking.
Flaw: #3 Data Blind Spot
System: Parking signal
Evil genius design: Data can not see everything. Even with a tight mesh of sensors, data also have internal biases. Design a Countdown system in order to control the wireless transmitter. By every 30 mins, wireless transmitter send renewed signal to mobile apps, even though parking spaces are occupied or free.
Flaw: #7 Authoritarian Setup
System: Parking control
Evil genius design: Parking in one local area just can park local car. There are some scans on ground will check where are cars come from. So if a car from others areas that park in this local parking, time bomb which buried ground will bomb during limited time.
